Fomes

||Fo"mes (fō"mēz), n.; pl. Fomites (fŏm"ĭ*tēz). [L. fomes, -itis, touch-wood, tinder.] (Med.) Any substance supposed to be capable of absorbing, retaining, and transporting contagious or infectious germs; as, woolen clothes are said to be active fomites.
