Gym*na"si*arch (jĭm*nā"zĭ*ärk),
n. [L. gymnasiarchus, Gr.
gymnasi`archos; gymna`sion +
'a`rchein to govern: cf. F. gymnasiarque.] (Gr.
Antiq.) An Athenian officer who superintended the gymnasia,
and provided the oil and other necessaries at his own
expense.
